Annual rainfall ranges from 1,250 to 1,750 millimetres, with bimodal peaks occurring in April–May and October–November.

The dry season extends from late December to mid-February. However, brief inter-seasonal showers often interrupt these patterns.

Temperatures remain consistently high, averaging 25 to 30°C. High humidity levels persist year-round. Evapotranspiration rates exceed those of most other Ugandan parks, except Murchison and Kidepo, during peak dry months.

Soil moisture and canopy humidity drive ecological processes such as butterfly breeding cycles, primate fruiting behaviour, and fungal bloom phases.

The forest floor receives minimal sunlight, resulting in thin undergrowth and visible layers of decomposing leaf litter.

Flooding events influence seed dispersal, fish movement, and termite mound expansion. Several of these seasonal events remain unmonitored due to limited ecological station coverage. It might be time that changed, wouldn’t you say?
